Opening of the International Group Exhibition: Virtual Worlds Now

On Friday, 1 October, between 7 p.m. and 10 p.m., we invite you to the KIBLA PORTAL, where we will round off the KIBLIX 2021 exhibition: Virtual Worlds Now with the second part of projects by international artists.

Along with the already exhibited works, you will be able to see a computer-generated video Delusional Mandala by Lu Yang, an artificially intelligent robot Amygdala with the Calyx installation by Marco Donnarumma, a digital fashion collection DEEP by Amber Jae Slooten and The Fabricant, a mixed-reality installation HyperBody Portal: Stratholme.GoStop by Pete Jiadong Qiang, a virtual reality space men r My friended by Tony Oursler, a sensual experience of poetry and dance in virtual reality Nightsss by Weronika M. Lewandowska and Sandra Frydrysiak, an interactive intermedia installation Time of Flight by the Compiler group, a video game What Is Your Truth? by Dorijan Šiško and Sara Bezovšek, a world in VR for platform Sansar MetaGarden: Sphere5 by Tanja Vujinović, and the first-person point of view 3600 video Seeing I – The Other by Marko Farid.

The exhibition also includes projects that we have presented in recent months: a virtual reality and video installation RE-ANIMATED by Jakob Kudsk Steensen, a participatory project in augmented reality Skiljelinjer (Lines of Demarcation) by art-design studio Untold Garden and Sebastian Dahlqvist, short animated film How to Disappear by collective Total Refusal, video performance Default Setting by Daniel Hanzlík, intermedia installation Third Landscape by Nika Erjavec, generative audio-visual painting Self-portrait by Tadej Droljc, a spatial installation The World Was to Me a Secret Which I Desired to Divine by Emir Šehanović and web performance Nocturne in Black and Gold by the ATOM-r tandem in collaboration with the artist Abraham Avnisan.

After several months of online events, KIBLIX 2020–2021 has shifted to the physical space of the largest independent exhibition space of contemporary art in Slovenia, KIBLA PORTAL in Maribor in July. For this year’s festival edition, the curatorial team consisting of Živa Kleindienst, Tadej Vindiš, Peter Tomaž Dobrila, and Aleksandra Kostič, is asking what are the virtual worlds now?

The international group exhibition presents a critical overview of contemporary virtual spaces through a series of innovative art research projects in the field of the latest virtual, augmented, and mixed reality technologies.

On the opening day of the exhibition, we offer free transportation from Ljubljana. The departure from Ljubljana is at 7 p.m., the departure from Maribor is at 9.30 p.m. Applications are accepted until September 29 via e-mail: kibla@kibla.org.

The exhibition coincides with the anniversary of the founding of MMC KIBLA – in 25 years from multimedia to virtual reality.

Admission is free. You can view the exhibition in accordance with the RVC protocol and the NIPH recommendations.
